Mini Tufted Rugs (Tues. + Wed. July 15-16 6-9pm + 6-7pm)
In this two-part workshop you will learn how to safely use a cut-pile rug tufting machine to create an approximately 15” x 15” mini rug, along with demonstrations of how to set up a tufting frame and how to add texture with manual loop tufting tools.
July 15: 6-9pm - Part 1: Design and create your rug with the tufting gun. Glue the back of the tufting cloth.
July 16: 6-7pm - Part 2: After the glue has dried overnight, we will cut the rugs off the tufting frame, add the backing, and trim the yarn. Participants will be able to take their finished rug home!
This workshop is suitable for adults. All materials and tools will be provided.
Yarn in various colors will be provided, but if you have a design in mind, feel free to bring your own yarn to this workshop! The cut-pile machines we will be using work with acrylic or wool yarn (no cotton please!), and prefer a yarn weight from worsted to bulky. Chunky weight is often too thick to pass through the eye of the needle, and fingering or lace-weight yarns won't create the density needed to make a plush rug! Also, any faux-fur or chenille type yarns are not recommended for this type of tufting
