Our most requested workshop! Introducing Intermediate Rug Tufting! This class is open to folks who have taken Zola’s Mini Rug Tufting class in the past and are ready to level up their rug making!
In this two-part workshop, you will have time, space, and support to create the mini rug of your dreams. (Maximum size ~25" x 25"). Using cut-pile tufting machines, you will be able to bring your design to life! Loop-pile machines and manual hand-tools will be available and Zola will demonstrate how to use them to add textural details, if desired.
Tuesday Part 1: Transfer your design to the tufting frame and create your rug with the tufting gun, including possible textural loop details. Glue the back of the tufting cloth.
Wednesday Part 2: After the glue has dried overnight, we will cut the rugs off the tufting frame, add the backing, and trim the yarn. Participants will be able to take their finished rug home!
All tools will be provided and a variety of different yarns of assorted colors and styles, but we encourage you bring your own selection of colors to best fit your intermediate design!
Notes on yarn: The cut-pile machines we will be using work with acrylic or wool yarn (no cotton please!), and prefer a yarn weight from worsted to bulky. Chunky weight is often too thick to pass through the eye of the needle, and fingering or lace-weight yarns won't create the density needed to make a plush rug! Also, any faux-fur or chenille type yarns are not recommended for this type of tufting.
